Especially as she was being compared to the character of Vivian Schuyler, who was non-stop vibrance and guts. Williams is so good at writing and creating brilliant and vibrant women, but Violet seemed to be lacking depth. The character of Violet Grant seemed to be lacking something. So, I have a few positive and negative things to say about this novel. The plot of both stories were incredibly similar, and there were multiple times that they had me saying, “I knew that was going to happen!”. The first thing I noticed about Williams’ writing after reading two of her novels back-to-back, is that the storylines show a lot of similarities. Williams is definitely a brilliant writer who doesn’t hesitate to tackle some big issues with her historical fiction. This novel, “The Secret Life of Violet Grant”, is in the same series, so it follows the storyline of another Schuyler sister, Vivian, and her great aunt, Violet. After reading “Along the Infinite Sea” by Williams, I couldn’t resist reading another.
